The Concept
The Council of Weavers is a coming together of the representative and the best in the
weaving communities. It begins in Laos with the development of a community-weaving system
of production. The Council of Weavers integrates this cottage industry into a system of
specialised production of quality textiles and luxury goods that are sold internationally.
Eventually this network of weaving communities may extend into all of Southeast Asia, the
region and the world.
The Council of Weavers aspires to be a premier Asian lifestyle brand, featuring exquisite hand-woven
silk textiles of peerless design and quality. It aims to create high-value products based on
hand-woven designs executed by Benny Ong. The collections are aimed at sophisticated, cosmopolitan
customers who are discerning not only of luxury but also of greater aesthetics in terms of its
artistic, cultural and social values. Material luxury will be complemented by an appreciation of its
all-natural origins and artful craftsmanship, as expressed through the distinctive sense of modern design
that is Benny Ong.
The collections will be retailed in upmarket outlets in Southeast Asia initially, and subsequently
offered in London, New York and Tokyo for the international market. Currently there is one retail
space in operation at Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Within the next two years, we expect to launch
eight retail outlets and a number of flagship stores in select cities.

"We don't accomplish anything in this world alone ... and whatever happens is the result
of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one
to another that creates something."
-- Sandra Day O'Connor
